The Story Behind Tagalog Truckers
Share
There wasn't a big master plan behind this brand. It started with something simple.
I just wanted a hat I actually wanted to wear.
Something I could throw on for the beach, the gym, a quick grocery run, or while traveling. Clean. Well designed. High energy. Something that felt like me. As a graphic designer, I've always paid attention to details. I looked for years. Everything out there felt either too generic or just not my vibe.
So, I started making my own.
But it didn't stop at design.
It turned into something more personal.
Where It Really Comes From
My family moved from the Philippines to Southern California in the 70s. Like a lot of Filipino American families, we brought everything with us. The food, the language, the traditions, and the way we show up for each other.
There's a photo of all of us dressed up for a Filipino wedding (pictured above). Clean fits. Proper. It's a moment that feels instantly familiar if you grew up Fil-Am. There's a pride in how we present ourselves, even for everyday occasions. That Filipino pride isn't loud or performative. It's just there, woven into everything.
That mindset stuck with me.

Design, But Make It Filipino
When I started creating these hats, I wanted pieces that felt natural to wear but still carried something deeper. Words like mabuhay, sarap, mahal...things we say without thinking, but that mean everything when you step back.
It's subtle. But if you know, you know.
That's the sweet spot for Filipino American culture in general. Something that works anywhere but still connects back to where we come from. Pinoy pride doesn't have to announce itself. It just has to feel real.
Why Trucker Hats
Trucker hats just made sense.
They're easy. They go anywhere. You don't overthink them.
Beach. Gym. Airport. Quick coffee run.
That's how I live, and that's how I wanted the brand to feel. No friction. Just something you reach for without thinking.
More Than Just a Hat
At the end of the day, this isn't just about headwear.
It's about representation that feels real — for the Filipino American community, for anyone who grew up between two worlds and wants something that honors both. Not loud for the sake of it. Not forced. Just part of your everyday life.
Something you can wear that feels like home, wherever you are.
